Cutting Instructions:
Background Fabric:
Cut 2 ~ 4″ squares
Cut 1 ~ 2 ” x 17″ strip (or 8 ~ 2″ squares)
Cut 1 ~ 2″ x 16″ strip (or 4 ~ 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles)
Cut 4 ~ 3 1/2″ Squares
Dark Blue With Small Flowers Fabric:
Cut 2 ~ 4″ Squares
Light Blue Fabric:
Cut 1 ~ 2 ” x 17″ strip (or 8 ~ 2″ squares)
Cut 1 ~ 2″ x 16″ strip (or 4 ~ 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles)
Large Floral Blue Fabric:
Cut 1 ~ 6 1/2″ square
Sewing Instructions:
Half Square Triangle Corners. On the back of the background 4″ square draw a diagonal line. Stitch 1/4″ away from the line on both sides, cut apart on the line. Press to the dark. Trim to 3 1/2″ Square. From the two squares you will get four half square triangles.
Two Patch and Rail Patches. Sew one background strip to one light blue stripe. Press to the light blue. Cut the strip in to needed sizes. Two patches are 2″ wide and the rail patches are 3 1/2″ wide. Paying attention to the layout you will sew a two patch on each end of the rail patch. The new unit will measure 3 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ . Make four.
Using the 6 1/2″ Large floral print square and the 3 1/2″ background squares make the square in a square unit. Draw a diagonal line on the back of the four squares. Place one square on a corner of the 6 1/2″ square, stitch on the line. Trim to the outside of the line and press to the corner. Repeat with the opposite corner. Repeat with the remaining corners. Trim to 6 1/2″ square. Make one.
Lay the units out like the above photo. Stitch the rows together. Press the top and bottom rows in and the center row out. This will allow for the seams to nest. Sew the rows together. It will measure 12 1/2″ square.
